NEWS RELEASE: Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region receives governance excellence award for outstanding board governance work

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EAFWR) was named one of two recipients of the Manulife Governance Excellence Award at the 2020 Manulife BootCamp on November 5. Executive Director Allan Mills and Board Chair Liz Hedley accepted the 6th annual award virtually on behalf of Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region. St. John’s Status of Women Council / Women’s Centre was also a recipient of the award.

“We are honoured to be recognized with this prestigious award,” said Allan Mills, Executive Director of Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region. “Every year, EAFWR sends new Board members to the Board Governance Bootcamp and every year, they bring back new ideas for improvements we can make to strengthen our governance practices. The Manulife Governance Excellence Award is a celebration of this work, along with our Board’s commitment to ongoing learning, providing the best supports for the people we serve and their families, and championing an inclusive community for all. Last year, I had the privilege of meeting Laura Winters at the bootcamp, and we are humbled to be recognized alongside this progressive and important organization from Newfoundland.”

This Manulife Governance Excellence Award recognizes outstanding board governance work in Waterloo Region’s charitable sector. Adjudicated and sponsored by Capacity Canada, the purpose of the award is to acknowledge and celebrate the organizational successes achieved by alumni of the Manulife Board Governance BootCamp. The award includes an unrestricted prize of $5,000.
