Statement of Solidarity from Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region #BlackLivesMatter

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region acknowledges and recognizes the devastating incidents that have taken place in recent weeks, including the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, and the harm done to Christian Cooper. We also recognize the legacy of anti-Black racism and systemic racism, and the social injustice that causes trauma, social inequalities and lives lost to violence.

Racism and oppression have no place in our community. We stand in solidarity with the Black community in Waterloo Region and around the world. As an organization rooted in inclusion and belonging, we remain committed to being inclusive and welcoming to everyone, and championing a community where all people belong, live fully and are valued.

This affects us all and we have a responsibility to educate ourselves and lend our voice in meaningful ways. We strive to continue learning, educating our staff, and acting in ways that are respectful and anti-oppressive.
