Inclusion Workshop
At Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region’s interactive Inclusion Workshop, you will learn about community inclusion and how to be with each other in a way that includes everyone. We will explore 5 ingredients for quality support, hear stories from qualified facilitators who have lived experience, and draw on the experience of everyone in the room. You will leave with a better understanding of your impact in relationships and how you’re contributing to a community where everyone belongs.

Exploring Interests in Community is a workshop for those who want to be involved in their community, but are not sure where to start. In this interactive training, you will be talking about and identifying your interests and how to find resources in the community that support them. You will plan your goals in manageable steps and you will leave with the beginnings of an action plan.

Understanding Conflict and Communication
Understanding Conflict and Communication – Foundations & Clearing Conflict is a workshop for personal and professional development.
In this workshop, you will become more aware of your preferred conflict style and identify situations where each conflict style can be used most effectively.
You will also use your knowledge of conflict styles to practice communication that clears up conflict and improves empathy in relationships.

Emergency First Aid/CPR - Level C
Emergency First Aid/CPR – Level C
Emergency First Aid/CPR – Level C is an interactive training that provides a forum to problem solve and discuss specific First Aid/CPR issues you may be dealing with in your work. Key aspects of the training include: CPR skills (adult/child/infant), AED skills, obstructed airways, heart attack and stroke education, bleeding emergencies, EpiPen training, as well as managing burns and seizures.
Lifts and Transfers
Lifts and Transfers
Lifts and Transfers training, also known as Ergonomic Safe Handling, is a hands on consultation that provides guidance on how to properly lift and transfer the person you support. The consultation is interactive, with time to ask questions and examine any specific issues you might face.

Medical Administration
Medical Administration
Medical Administration training takes place through an online learning portal with videos and webinars. A registered nurse will teach you the theory portion of the training. This training is only available to people connected to Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region who provide direct support to a person who requires a Controlled Act (an activity that can cause harm if it is performed by an unqualified person).

Sex Talks
Sex Talks is a workshop series all about sexual health and relationships. We talk about consent and boundaries, gender and sexuality, masturbation, staying safe online and more. All questions are good questions and you will have time to ask about anything you want.
Talking About Sexuality
Talking About Sexuality
At various points, we all have questions about our bodies, about sex and about love. So what happens when you are the person being asked for advice?
Talking About Sexuality is a workshop that will help to inform the way we support people in understanding healthy sexuality and relationships. We address how to respond to questions about sex, masturbation, dating and other related topics. There is opportunity to discuss our fears, concerns, values and to understand our role as caregivers and support people in the development of healthy sexuality.

Crisis Prevention by Safe Management
Crisis Prevention by Safe Management provides knowledge and strategies about dealing with difficult situations. You will learn how to build positive relationships, practice verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques, avoid injuries if behaviour escalates to a physical level and more.
Looking Out For Me - Abuse Prevention and Awareness
Looking Out For Me – Abuse Prevention and Awareness
Looking Out For Me – Abuse Prevention and Awareness is a private training about preventing, recognizing and reporting abuse. You will learn about different types of abuse, your rights, who you can talk to if abuse happens, and how to make a safety plan for when you are afraid or feeling unsafe.
