Virtual Film Screening of “The First Call”
What: The First Call (film screening). Angela Onuora wrote, directed, and produced her first feature film during the lockdown.
The First Call tells an evocative story, showing the ripple effects of family dysfunction in the time of COVID19 amidst the craziness of pandemic fatigue.
In addition to just being nominated as 1 of 4 finalists in the Best Film by an African Living Abroad category at the 2021 African Movie Academy Awards AND a finalist in the Experimental category for the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, First Call has also won the Best Feature Film at the CineFAM Film Festival 2021.”

Who: Originally from Nigeria, Angela migrated to Ontario, Canada (the Region of Waterloo) in 2014. She co-founded a Women-in-Filmmaking Collective called Studio D-20, under the auspices of the Commons Studio – a part of The Working Centre Kitchener. She is presently completing her Masters in Film at York University in Toronto.
The film is 60 minutes long and we will have a Q and A with Angela following the screening.
